Socket AM3: AMD's Phenom II Gets DDR3 : Introduction

Introduction [under construction]

Running in second place is a strong motivator to do things differently—or even better—than your competition. For AMD, that has meant trying to develop a reputation for smoother, less disruptive platform transitions.

When Intel launched Core i7, it was a given that you’d need an X58 motherboard with the company’s LGA 1366 interface. Before that, LGA 775 served the Core micro-architecture well. But again, that was a complete departure from Socket 478, as the device required a completely new motherboard. Each step of the way, Intel has tweaked the packaging of its CPUs, altering thermals and mechanical load limits. Each new socket has addressed those alterations in kind.

A History Of Smoother Socket Launches?

Say what you will about its current performance deficit versus Intel’s fastest Core i7 processors, but AMD’s approach to adding functionality and shifting platform technologies has arguably been a bit less disruptive—at least on the surface. Missing from the below chart is Socket 940 and Socket AM2+. Socket 940 was only somewhat relevant to enthusiasts who purchased high-end Athlon 64 FX chips. And Socket AM2+ is perhaps the best example of AMD unveiling a new socket without stranding customers who invested in AM2. You could drop a newer AM2+ CPU in an older AM2 board and not run into trouble, aside from losing split power plane and HyperTransport 3.0 support.

Socket AM2+: 940-pinsSocket AM3: 938-pins

What the table doesn't reflect are the situations where a new 140 W CPU might fit into a given socket, but still not work due to a motherboard design inadequacy (AMD and early 780G boards) or a fresh micro-architecture is launched on an existing platform, requiring new motherboards as a result of voltage changes (Intel and its Conroe).

Now, with the unveiling of Socket AM3, AMD brings half of that same story over to its newest PGA-ZIF interface. You see, AM3 processors include the DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers needed to drop into either AM2/AM2+ or AM3 motherboards. However, aging AM2/AM2+ processors don’t have the DDR3 memory controller to drop into an AM3 motherboard. We have to imagine more enthusiasts would be interested in adopting modern 45 nm CPUs and recycling their platforms than keeping a dated processor, hoping to only upgrade the motherboard, so that's an acceptable trade-off to us. Just to be sure no mistakes are made, AM3 processors come armed with 938 pins—two shy of the 940 needed in an AM2/AM2+ configuration.

Pendahuluan

A History Of halus Socket Luncurkan?

Laptops vs. Desktops

Laptops vs. Desktops [English Version]

Will Laptops Ever Replace Desktops? This is a recurring question and it seems that everyone has they own opinion
on this matter. Let me share mine.
There is no doubt that for the common user who just wants a computer for running office-like applications
and accessing the Internet laptops are a terrific substitute for desktops. The benefits from this migration are obvious:
less space required on the desk, ability to carry the computer anywhere and less power consumption.

Laptops also provide some disadvantages over desktops, and are based on these disadvantages –
some of them are nothing but myths – that many users refrain from giving up desktops and using only laptops. Let’s see:

You can’t upgrade components from a laptop: This is partially a myth. Usually you can add more memory
or replace the hard disk drive. Plus some models offer expansion slots like Express Card.
But there is something funny about this claim. Average users, apart from installing more memory,
replacing the hard disk and replacing or adding a video card, are not upgrading PCs like they use to do a few years ago.
This means that the average user (who doesn’t want to learn technical details on how to replace parts
and is willing to pay someone to do this for him or her) will simply buy a new computer instead of trying
to upgrade the CPU or motherboard. The problem is that we usually base your rationale on ourselves –
heavy technical users. So the only area that this statement holds true is regarding the video card,
which traditionally can’t be added or replace on a laptop. But, hey, you can eBay your old laptop and buy a new one
with a better gaming performance. Of course if you are the kind of user that likes to open your PC
and play with its internal parts then a laptop is simply not for you (at least as a primary computer)!

You can’t play games on a laptop: Well, you can play games on an entry-level desktop either,
so what are you complaining about? The problem is that on an entry-level PC you can add a good graphics card
and you will have a decent gaming machine, what is not possible to do with a laptop. So the difference is
that if you want to play games on a laptop you have to keep this in mind before deciding on a model that is right for you.
The market has changed quite a bit in the past year and you can now have a laptop that has gaming performance
similar to desktops – or even better, depending to what desktop you are comparing to. But you will have to pay more for it,
of course.

Laptops have lower performance: Myth. If you have a laptop with a high-end configuration and compare it
to an entry-level desktop, the laptop will be faster! So everything depends on the configuration you pick.
The only area where laptops are traditionally deficient is gaming performance, but this is changing.

The laptop screen is too small: This is a myth. There are models with really large screens around.
The only kind of user that laptops are not really addressing out of the box today is the one that wants more than
one display (even though we’ve seen prototypes of monitors with two displays). You can solve this,
however, installing an external LCD monitor and configuring your laptop to use the second monitor as an extension
of your Windows desktop. It works just like on desktops with two monitors.

The laptop keyboard is too small: Pure myth. You can simply buy a regular USB or Bluetooth
(if your laptop supports this technology) keyboard to solve this issue. Using a laptop with an external keyboard
you will still be using far less space than a desktop computer.

Laptops are more expensive than desktops: Laptop prices dropped a lot in the past few years and in fact there are
good entry-level laptops that are cheaper than entry-level desktops. On the high-end arena gaming laptops tend
to be more expensive than their desktop counterparts, but the price difference isn’t so huge as it used to be some years ago.
So what is really holding more people to change from desktops to laptops in my opinion is to them to realize that the market
has changed a lot in the past few years and their opinion about portable computers can be based on myths created
on a time that they could really be true.

kita liat giaman pendapatnya tentang laptop vs desktop?

Tapi apakah laptop mampu menjadi rival desktop??
Apakah laptop masa depan mampu melebihi fungsi desktop ??

silahkan anda yang memutuskan...

About CrossfireX

ABOUT CrossfireX

CrossFire main advantages if compared with SLI is that the CrossFire vga card does not need to GPU is based on the same but there are some limitations, namely whether vga card can be used together?.

Cutting: This mode is similar to the SFR (Split Frame Rendering) from SLI, but because you can hook two vga under CrossFire, half of the screen provided by the vga the fastest will be the first and vga must wait too long to be able to complete its task to forward to the next frame. This will make the video more quickly to work in the same vga a slower speed. To overcome this problem, CrossFire allows dynamic load balancing, that is if the card quickly connected with a slow, then the system will not display as the two share the same part, will be faster to enter the vga than one screen, so for them to complete the rendering on the the same time.

SuperTiling: In this mode the screen is divided into several small part squared (or "tiles"), each measuring 32x32 pixels, and each vga in charge of handling the available tiles. Load balancing is also used here, so the fastest card will get more tiles to make the card slower than if you use two video cards.

Alternate Frame Rendering (AFR): This mode is identical with SLI mode with the same name, in which time one of the video card is rendering the current frame, the other card rendering the next frame.
Super AA: AA is equivalent to the SLI, this mode allows improvement in image quality, not performance. You can increase the AA (anti-aliasing) to the x14 this mode.

Just like SLI, CrossFire is only available for PCI Express card and you must have a motherboard with two or four PCI Express x16 slot and the motherboard must be based on the AMD / ATI or Intel chipset. Please note that depending on the chipset PCI Express x16 slots can run at x8 speed when CrossFire mode is enabled (more on later).

Also when CrossFire mode is enabled only one video output is available, so that you can not have multiple monitor configuration under CrossFire, only one screen

Hybrid CrossFireX technology with the nVidia's GeForce Boost. This is intended for low-end system with on-board video motherboard. When you install the "real" vga compatible with this technology, the system set vga vga and on-board to work in parallel in CrossFire mode, improve the performance of gaming.

As it happens with the pair of nVidia, you must have a motherboard that is compatible with the chipset and also vga that support this technology to use them. So far, only motherboards based on AMD 780G chipset and video card is based on the Radeon HD 2400 and Radeon HD 3400 series is compatible with Hybrid CrossFireX. This technology only works under Windows Vista.

ABOUT ScalableLI

ABOUT Scalable Link Interface [SLI]

SLI, or Scalable Link Interface first introduced in 1998 with VGA Card 3dfx product vodoo2 by nVidia. in the process, a method using SLI SFR [split frame Rendering] where every frame is divided "two" to the GPU [Graphics Processing Unit], the process occurs when using two vga card. AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) is a method of rendering the first series where the GPU is being merender, the second GPU merender next frame at the same time, AFR and SFR used by quad SLI. SLI-AA [Anti-Aliasing] This mode is not intended to improve the image quality. HybridSLI is the name for the two technologies: GeForce Boost and HybridPower GeForce Boost technology is video on-board that will improve the performance of 3D, the problem is only GeForce 8400 GS and GeForce 8500 GT that supports the two technologies, if you do not use the VGA type, then GeForce Boost technology will not be active. HybridPower Technology where VGA is disabled if you do not play games, so save energy. while non-active is used VGA VGA onboard. the problem is only two video card that is compatible with HybridPower: GeForce 9800 GTX and GeForce 9800 GX2 to enable SLI or CrossFire, you must use the motherboard with two or more ex PCi, in choosing motherboard you should consider these chipset, for SLI nForce chipset, and chipset for AMD-ATI CrossFire, unless you decide to use the Intel Dual Socket Extreme D5400XS platform that supports SLI and CrossFireX technology. In use, dual SLI, 3-way SLI, quad SLI using the SLI bridge, except for certain types vga [GeForce 6600, 7100 and 7300] and there is a difference for SLI VGA type, the same is for all must use the VGA is the same type, even from the factory and bios version.

Of two articles it's up to you to choose which technology is appropriate for your graphics needs.
